Environmental issues impact upon many areas of the law and several of our lawyers have experience with environmental issues as they pertain to commercial, insolvency and oil and gas matters.

Family Law

Members of our family law team deal with a wide variety of issues including separation, divorce, matrimonial property, common law rights, support matters, and premarriage agreements. Our lawyers form a team of trained litigators, mediators and certified collaborative law practitioners.

Litigation
Our litigators are involved in commercial, banking, construction, insurance and aboriginal litigation. Such litigation covers a broad spectrum including motor vehicle liability, personal injury, occupiers and product liability, wrongful dismissal, defamation, contractual and property disputes, builders liens and malpractice claims involving doctors, architects, engineers and accountants. In addition, firm members handle bankruptcy, receivership and other insolvency-related litigation. We also engage in arbitration and have appeared as counsel and as arbitrators. One of our partners is active in the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society. Members of our litigation group have made appearances before the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, Court of Appeal, Federal Court, Supreme Court of Canada, the Income Tax Review Board, the Land Compensation Board, the Development Appeal Board, the Alberta Securities Commission and panels of the Farm Debt Review Board and numerous other professional disciplinary panels, government boards and commissions.

Medicine
The firm has represented numerous medical practitioners and clinics and a well-known Calgary nursing home. We have also acted for parties involved in medical malpractice claims. Members of the firm are versed in individual rights associated with medical procedures.

Natural Resources
Our natural resources practice includes the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties and related equipment, plants and pipelines, the preparation and review of standard oil and gas documentation, title reviews and opinions, the preparation of oil and gas security, security reviews and opinions, and the enforcement of oil and gas security. We also have experience in oil and gas litigation relating to operator and joint venture matters, as well as, royalty claims.

Real Estate and Construction
Our solicitors act for various financial institutions in real estate financing, as well as acting for vendors and purchasers in residential and commercial real estate transactions. Firm members have experience in land assembly, real estate development and construction in all phases, and commercial and residential leasing.

Security Enforcement, Receivership, and Insolvency
A review of individual lawyer biographies will demonstrate that we have a well-established and prominent insolvency practice. As well as a detailed understanding of insolvency law, the nature of receivership and bankruptcy requires experience in conveyancing, corporate securities, oil and gas, pension, environmental and litigation matters. Our firm is able to draw on the expertise of our individual lawyers to give counsel to accounting firms and financial institutions in receivership, bankruptcy and debt refinancing matters. Our insolvency practice has resulted in our lawyers acting as counsel in many of the major receiverships and debt refinancings which have occurred in Calgary. We also frequently act for individuals, creditors, and trustees in personal and corporate bankruptcies.
